A SpoofThing is your version of any part of a film. It can be anything from the titles to a scene to the whole film if you’ve got time.
What you spoof isn’t important. What is important is that it’s completely original and doesn’t use music or visuals from the original film. That’s why we’ve called it SpoofThing, not CopyThing.
Each month, we’ll select our favourite entry and one lucky winner will receive a whole year’s supply of cinema tickets courtesy of ScreenThing!

SpoofThing tips

1. Think small. Think cheap.
Work with what’s around you.
Got some mates and a camera phone? Get them speaking some dialogue and you’re away. Have you got a kazoo? Do you know how to hum? Then you can make a soundtrack. Have you got plates you can smash or balloons you can burst? Then you’ve got your special effects.
Want to re-make Jaws but don’t have access to a boat? Set it in the bath and use toys. Check out other users’ SpoofThings for ideas.
2. Don’t stick too closely to the original.
Part of the fun is imagining different endings, changing scenarios or whatever. Half the point is how you make something different to how it already is.
3. Don’t steal.
SpoofThing is all about originality. Of course be inspired by the film you’re spoofing but give it a new twist. Making stuff up is part of the fun, and in many ways the whole point!
If you need sound effects check on specialist websites – just make sure they’re free to use and read the agreements.
